DOS MÁS/ DEUX DE PLUS/ TWO MORE - WEEKS!
It's my last full day in Vitoria-Gasteiz today and I cannot believe how quickly time has passed this European summer! Packing up our ‘home’ is usually a very time consuming task after living here for 4.5 months so the fact I am finding the time to write an update indicates everything is under control or I’m procrastinating…
When I write updates, I often use Training Peaks to remind me what I have been up to and looking back over August and the beginning of September, I have raced three times (in three different countries) and had some very consistent training.
I started August by travelling to the beautiful little town of Tubingen to race for my German team. For this race, I decided to race on a team bike to make travelling a little easier although following this season’s travel trends, my trip to Germany didn’t go quite to plan with a cancelled flight Saturday night which left me stuck in Brussels until 7am the morning of the race. This meant I turned up to the race site at 11am for a 1pm start, tested the team bike for 5 minutes, set up transition and got on with the race! The actual race was pretty smooth sailing with my team finishing up 4th on the day and 2nd overall in the 2017 series!
For the next three weeks, I had a pretty solid training block back in Vitoria-Gasteiz. Generally for us, Monday’s training is pretty relaxed then it is all systems go from Tuesday to ‘Super Saturday’ and finishing the week with an easy long run on Sunday morning. Most of us make a habit of heading in to the old town of Vitoria-Gasteiz on a Saturday night for dinner which can sometimes seem like a huge effort but it’s always a nice way to finish the week.
I ended August with the penultimate French Grand Prix in Quiberon with my team Issy Triathlon! I love races by the beach even if there is a lack of waves to have some fun with! Unfortunately, I was caught up in a crash about 3km in to the 20km bike leg but luckily I came away with only some bruising and a bit of a sore hip. On a positive, our team was 3rd on the day which leaves us in 2nd place overall!
For my final week in the Basque Country, my brother Andrew came to visit and on Sunday we ventured the 1 hour drive to Sestao for a local race! Despite it being a pretty miserable and wet day, as always, the community embraced the event and I was happy to come in 2nd!
So where to now?
Tomorrow I will travel to Issy-les-Moulineaux, to stay with my French team for a week and a half. This Saturday I will race a ‘Pursuit’ triathlon in La Baule where the men give the women a headstart and try to catch us!
For my final weekend in Europe, I will line up again for Issy Triathlon in Nice and do my best for the team to end the season on the podium!
And... in 2 weeks time I will be back in Australia!!
I also snuck in a Sunday beach visit to Itzurun!
