Starting 2016 On A High
First of all, Happy New Year to everyone and I hope you all had a relaxing holiday period and spent plenty of time with family and friends having a good time. I really love the vibe leading up to Christmas especially where I live in Wollongong because there is plenty of things happening, the weather is nice and most importantly, the beach is amazing. I generally use the month of December to get back in to some sort of training routine while enjoying being able to train with people outside of my training group the Wollongong Wizards.
Here are some of my highlights of December:
- Swimming sessions at the Continental Pool
- Sophie Corbidge from NZ making her debut in Wollongong for a week (and cooking me dinner every night)
- Watching the ‘Quidam’ show by Cirque du Soleil.
- Spending time with my family during Christmas
- Joining hundreds of people in Wollongong all dressed as Santas, elves, presents, Santa’s helpers etc
- A photoshoot for the Garmin 2016 range. I’m still very in love with my Fenix 3 watch!
It’s always nice to be able to spend time with people who support me throughout the year and to be able to refresh a little before knuckling down at our first training camp in Falls Creek, Victoria which brings me to January 2016.
I enjoy being in Falls Creek as I feel I have less distractions and plenty of time to sit down, set out goals and get myself in a good headspace for the upcoming season. In addition to this, I love riding on the quiet country roads, running on the trails and swimming in the lake and the 33m pool in Mount Beauty.
Coming in to the camp, I was having some problems with my plantar fascia so my running volume hasn’t been huge over the past month although there has been a huge improvement and I’m looking forward to starting some quality sessions in the near future.
During our time in Falls, we have; worked with Paul Hallam on our sprinting technique, ridden the 30km mountain a number of times, swam in the lake, hit the gym, monitored our sleep, frozen in ice baths and taken far too many photos and videos.
I feel like it has been a positive start to the year and with some new goals and processes to concentrate on in all different aspects of my life, I am looking forward to what 2016 will bring.
As always I really appreciate the continued support of my coach Jamie, the Gong Wizards, Triathlon Australia, Alex Price our physio, ESP Management, 2XU, Spearman Cycles, Zealous Swimwear, Garmin and Graham Marcolin from McDonald’s Sutton Forest who has looked after me immensely since 2011 and of course my parents who are there for me 24/7.
Adios,
Grace
